There is a lot that goes into an Adirondack moment. Your hopes. Your dreams. Your hard-earned time and cash. Many times you can control what happens around that moment and sometimes you will be happy that ANYTHING came about at all. It’s important to me that the payout for whatever I get into for myself isn’t being done just because I started it and I’m going to finish it, damn it. My equation is My Happiness= My Experience/BS. Always heading towards a positive number, a positive interaction. Everything that goes into that, I consider as overhead.

My friend and I get to this overlook as often as we can. For him, it’s about a 20 minute drive around Cumberland Bay. For me, 6 minutes from the moment I say I’m going to me sitting in that chair. For a bit, I wasn’t even investing in the effort to load my OWN damn chair. Rich, a prudent investor, put an extra one on his inventory, an investment in my comfort and his apparent happiness. A Mate is not ever overhead, but they are worth investing in.

A beautiful dawn: why no smiles?

I could care less at this moment. Sure, we haul ourselves out of bed at O-Darn-30. Sure we’ve done it a couple hundred times in the last two years, come bugs and chill and winds and canoodling Canuks and more. It less a monetary gain than a photonic one, a price we pay every chance we get to enjoy the dawns and the caffeine and each other’s company. I am pleased to pay this overhead as an investment in the rest of my days, and for future sunrises! Get out. Look up. Soak up some Champlain rays. Worth it😎
